I'm talking about the real deal breakfast taco like Mexico street vendor style. Not fast food or processed stuff. Why are there badass breakfast taco stands, joints, and trailers all over Austin and I have to go to Taco Cabana on Saturday mornings to find a breakfast taco. Who knows a seriously good place?

Hey Grant, Tacos y Mas does breakfast tacos. I haven't had them yet. I think that when they have the Flea Market at Lee Harvey's (that's the first Saturday of the month), they do them too. I'm sure that Tacos y Mas would be way better than Taco Cabana. We need one of these here! (photo by brouhaha)

health department of Dallas would never allow the same thing that Austin does. and i think Austin only started allowing it years ago on a trial basis but never saw major problems so they just let them do it. i must have seen 100 roadside "eatin spots" all over Austin when i was at the go to hell rally.

personally i would be suspicious of any such place. when you have worked in as many kitchens as i have, you know that the cheaper the building the cheaper the owner is.

I second Jsharp on the Green Spot breakfast tacos --- they are wonderful. However, you have to get there early or they run out.

the only problem with the green spot, is they're not open on mondays. and mondays are usually the days that i NEED breakfast tacos the most.

I thought of one. Inside Malone's Cost Plus on Columbia, maybe at Fitzhugh or Collett (right across the street from the head shop). Anyway, it's toward The Doublewide from Munger.

When you pull up, on the left there is a big setup selling Tejano CDs. So you go into the store and turn right and there's a counter where the ladies are making tacos. They have some tables and chairs. It's the real dealio and it's cheap. There's an actual Labor Park very near the shopping center and the guys are getting breakfast before they try to pile into pickups to go out to work. The 1st lady that waits on you may have to go get the other lady that sort of speaks a little bit of English.

there used to be one off park lane and greenville by the ghetto apartments near the sams club. it has a cheesy painting of a dude eating tacos on the side of the building

also, Taco Joint. On peak between gaston and live oak. That place is amazing for breakfast or lunch. (they close at 2). If you're going for lunch, and you get there after about 11:45, you might as well go somewhere else. The line will be out the door.

i can speak spanglish only because of 25 years in kitchens, i took french in high school. the spanish class the first year of my french "awakening" was 2 times the size of our french "ensemble". i cant spell but i can speak it. so i can sometimes get the first lady to wait on me. but then its all downhill when she sees im a gringo. ah, c'est la vie.

I'll also vote for Taco Joint. Great guys and great prices, but be prepared to wait in line depending on when you get there. Good thing is they can get people in and out fast.

oliver and i have gone a taco ride before. fuel city downtown is nationally known for there tacos. Stewart is the man on tacos and he goes to green spot almost everyday for them. the taco window at gaston and east grand is great also.

Here's one more to check out. Darin (of The Mumbles) posted this, talking about the fish tacos.....

http://www.therustytaco.com/index.html

It's very near Vespa Dallas.
